Your Local 238 Negotiating Committee is pleased to report that a new Collective Bargaining Agreement with our NECA partners was agreed upon on May 21, 2020. The 12 month contract includes a $0.50 journeyman wage increase effective June 1, 2020, and a $0.45 journeyman wage increase effective January 1, 2021. Our pension contribution increased from 8.25% to 8.5% effective June 1, 2020. On January 1, 2021, the union will 50/50 split a mandatory health fund increase of $0.25 with our contractor partners. Contractors have agreed to increase contributions to JATC from 2% to 2.25% effective June 1, 2020. Having to negotiate a contract in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic was no easy task. Our NECA partners are understandably concerned as to the fate of our national economy and began the opening stages of negotiations asking Local 238 to freeze wages and benefits for 24 months while the pandemic ran it's course and things returmed to a more normal state. Our negotiating committee effectively argued the position that Local 238 has worked incredibly had to increase it's market share substantially and is currently unable to attract the manpower needed to the fill the open calls in our jurisdiction. In exchange for a shorter contract duration, NECA agreed to a $1.25/hr. total package increase by January 1, 2020. The Negotiating Committee would like to thank the Local 238 members who committed time and ideas during the Saturday negotiation discussion groups that were held earlier in the year. In order to plan and discuss strategy for the next contract negotiations in 2021, the negotiation discussion groups will continue once the Covid-19 city/state/county rules and regulations against groups gathering have been lifted.
